Current Clients: Please read the important information below regarding changes for 2008.
AmorphicMedia will no longer be providing web hosting services as of April 15th 2008. If you are a current web hosting client, there are some steps you will need to take to ensure that your site remains online beyond the April 15th deadline.
Whether you plan on migrating your current site or having a new one created, you will need to find a new designer/developer to help you out. Before doing so, have a look at an article about some of the biggest web design mistakes and choose a developer who has a proven record of avoiding them.
Technically speaking, if you're planning on continuing to use your current site for awhile you'll need to find a developer that speaks PHP*.
* www.liquidassetsnj.com is the only site currently on amorphicMedia.com that does not require PHP or any server side language to run
If you have been using a desktop email client such as Mac Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, or Entourage, or another desktop client, you likely already have been downloading and managing all of your email to your computer. If this is the case, you need to do nothing more to save the messages. When your new hosting account is created, simply update your mail configuration and go on with business as usual.
If, however, you have been managing your email using the SquirrelMail web client and you have not been using a desktop email client, you will need to download any messages that you wish to save to your computer. The easiest way is by using one of the desktop email clients listed above. Contact me to find out how to set up a desktop email client and I will be happy to assist you.
Web standards and user expectations have changed tremendously in recent years. If your site is was designed by amorphicmedia more than two years ago and hasn't had a major update or redesign since, I would highly recommend a complete redesign to make your website accessible to the widest audience possible.
Why? There are many reasons including older design practices which relied on outdated coding methods to control page layout. These methods were recommended, used, and accepted before modern browsers had robust support for CSS and other web standards and before web browsing was popular on devices other than common desktop computers.
Since fall 2005, amorphicMedia has been designing according to modern Web Standards to ensure maximum accessibility and flexibility in today's browsers and hand held devices. If your site was designed by amorphicMedia before this time, then it very likely uses these outdated coding methods which may cause issues with accessibility and may not display properly on alternate browsing devices such as smartphones, dataphones, etc…
A web hosting service provider hosts and maintains the webservers and domain locations that make web sites available over the Internet. Web host service providers offer a wide range of products and services each with advantages and limitations. Fees for web hosting services vary greatly so it is recommended that you ask your new web designer/developer to research options for you and make a recommendation based on your needs.
Once again, if you are planning on simply migrating your current site or you are having a new site designed, but it won't be ready by April 15th 2008, consult the how to migrate your current site section to determine the minimum requirements.
amorphicMedia recommends Yahoo! or GoDaddy for web hosting.
Your new Web developer should be able to handle this one, if however you require assistance, Contact me and I will be happy to assist (fees may apply).
Again, your new Web developer should be able to handle this one. You will likely have to contact your domain name service for specific information on how to assign your domain to a new server. This information is not something that amorphicMedia has access to, so you will have to take care of this on your own (or have your new web developer assist you). If you do not remember what company is providing service for your domain name, you can do a Whois search for your domain name (eg: grindergirl.com) and the information should be provided.
Do this as a courtesy so that I know you are all set and ready to go. I will then be able to purge your site from my servers and officially close your account.
